Blog No. 4- Where has the time gone?

Writer: Dani Rowe Dani Rowe

I really can’t believe how time is going so fast and I’m nearly 30 weeks pregnant already. My last blog was around 6 weeks ago and I feel very grateful to report that its been a really enjoyable time.

Myself and Matt were living with friends because of our major house renovations (bad timing) however my friend is a nurse and went back to work meaning it wasn’t safe for us to stay. We have since moved down to my parents house in Southampton which has been a lovely change and means we get very well looked after. We went back to check on the house and take all our baby deliveries back up to Wales. Baby deliveries have been the highlight of my days!!! My Dad and Matt built the pram which is gorgeous.. its the I candy peach deluxe and I cannot wait to use it!!

Ive been lucky to still feel good so I’ve remained really active since my last blog. Ive been doing a mixture of running, riding indoors, riding outdoors on a mountain bike and walking. Im having to stop running now because I’m finding that its putting too much pressure on my lower back. I also think because I didn’t do a huge amount of running before getting pregnant my body is finding it harder to adjust. Ive been riding on ‘Zwift’ (a virtual cycling platform) most days for up to an hour and find cycling is perfect for me. My body is so used to it and where its non weight baring I feel super comfortable. Ive done a few mountain bike rides on the roads and on trails and this has been really enjoyable, especially in this lovely weather. I find a mountain bike safer to ride being more upright and having a more stable position. I was kindly gifted a set of Fitta Mamma maternity workout kit which I LOVE. The FittaMamma range is the ONLY maternity fitness wear worldwide to undergo scientific testing and they found that it reduces bump movement by 48%. I could really feel that when I used it running and also now love to wear it on my bike.

Unfortunately I’ve still had a few negative comments to me remaining active which really surprises me. Exercise in pregnancy is so important for so many reasons. The physical and mental benefits of exercise are so beneficial, it helps me to sleep better and eat better as well as keeping my body strong. I know that giving birth, recovering afterwards and caring for a small baby will be physically demanding and it’s so important to be prepared.

Ive just finished a course of ’Now Baby’ live antenatal classes online. They’ve been super helpful and a nice alternative to not having the opportunity in real life. I’m unsure whether to sign up for the NCT classes as they are all virtual and my understanding was they are mostly to meet others going through the same timings as you.

I find myself having days where he’s not so active & it makes me so anxious. I went into hospital around 21 weeks as I was worried about lack of movement but all was fine. I felt stupid for time wasting but the nurses were fantastic in reassuring me I did the right thing. I definitely don’t have a pattern of movement but I love his more active days when it feels like he’s practising his dance moves.

As I head into the last 10 weeks of my pregnancy I’m going to really try & make the most of it as I know a lot of people miss being pregnant once the babies come along.

I hope you’re enjoying my journey,

Dani x
